The TYPE MA-1 REAL McCOY MFG. CO. / BLACK reproduces a civilian MA-1 from the 1970s, when manufacturers holding U.S. military flight jacket contracts began adapting their designs for the consumer market. Drawing on experience gained under military specification, these contractors produced a range of garments for retail sale. Among the most notable was the black MA-1, a colorway never issued for military use, which is widely credited with helping carry the flight jacket into mainstream civilian wear. In keeping with the period, the front closure uses a custom-made zipper with a reversible slider, allowing it to be operated with the jacket worn either side out.
